WHY CHANGE & TRANSFORMATION NEED PSYCHOLOGY
We recently published a blog article about the psychological effects that ruin communication campaigns. Such communication mistakes are observed on a daily basis. For instance, instead of reducing uncivil behaviours in public spaces, posters (like the one on the right) are inefficient at best, and counter-productive at worst… Indeed, there is scientific evidence to support that this type of content may increase anti-social behaviour.
Communication and transformation efforts are currently dominated by two trends. The aesthetic trend, taken up by communication agencies, puts the emphasis on forms, art and aesthetics. The informative trend proposes that it is sufficient to inform targets about good practices to generate change.
In both cases unfortunately, outcomes are often disappointing because they ignore the scientific approach that focuses on peoples’ psychology and behaviour.
How can one expect to convince, persuade and generate change when the way people think, make decisions and behave is not taken into account nor anticipated?
